Pretty much this. I've been doing this for almost 20 years now (my first release was Maruo's Laughing Vampire sometime in 2004 on 4chan's /t/ board, where they tore me a new one for initially using Times New Roman) and I don't plan to stop. Scanlating guro manga is far from my only dorky hobby, though, so the percentage of free time I can blow on it varies a lot. If I was all about that sweet attention I'd probably have my own site and do chapter releases instead of full volumes. That said, feedback is always welcome and appreciated.

Question: Do you remember when exactly was GUROchan founded?

Most sources say it was founded in late 2004 but the earliest archive is from January 2005, which has posts that only suggest that GUROchan was created in 2004. So it's a bit unclear.

I can't help you with the exact date, unfortunately. I remember why gurochan was created: 4chan's short-lived guro board, where I found the lady who translated and edited Mai-chan's Daily Life and a few other things for me, got deleted because a majority of mods voted against it. Looking at past projects I see that I wasn't posting on gurochan in November 2004 (I released Shintaro Kago's short story "When All Is Said And Done" on 4chan's /t/ board) but I most certainly was releasing stuff (and collaborating with a translator) on gurochan by June 2005 (Horihone Saizou's Drainage City was translated and released on gurochan). Bear in mind that I wasn't a founding member of gurochan or anything. Someone told me about it after it had already been going for a few weeks or months. Sorry, that's the best I can do.
